I’m so excited! A few days ago, I shared some of my inspiration pantries and now I’m sharing my final pantry design plan with you! Trying to pull this together has been more than a little overwhelming. There’s so much I want to do, but I have to be realistic. I only have so much space and a little thing called a “budget!”
Pantry Design Plan Colors
Our color palette is made up of colors already in our home. The walls are Accessible Beige by Sherwin Williams. We’ve used this color for most of the walls in our home. Even though the name contains beige, it’s actually a greige. It’s more grey in some lights and more light beige in other – it’s the perfect neutral! It’s light and makes the whole house feel lighter! And I really like that there are no undertones I have to decorate around. I love this color!
We painted our kitchen cabinets Swiss Coffee (Behr) and our kitchen island Iron Mountain (Benjamin Moore). Since we like it so much, we’re going with the same colors in the pantry. We’re using the Swiss Coffee for the open shelving and Iron Mountain for all the other cabinetry. If you’re looking for a great dark gray, Iron Mountain is wonderful! It’s a rich dark gray with brown undertones and looks great in contrast to the Swiss Coffee. The accent color is a rich turquoise called Holiday Turquoise from Sherwin Williams. I’m putting wallpaper along the back of the shelves for a pop of color. The retro feel and soft colors of this wallpaper will look great with the other colors in the pantry design plan.
The Storage Plan

We’re building really substantial, chunky open-shelving. I love these from Desert Domicile! I pretty much followed her tutorial and they were relatively easy to build.
Cabinetry will be a mixture of shelves, pullouts and drawers and yep…I’m building them! It’ll keep us on budget and I can customize them to fit the space. A few months ago, I ordered a large freezer (my husband calls it Big Foot’s freezer!) that has to fit in this pantry. Even though I measured, I didn’t realize just how big it was until it was delivered. It holds a HUGE amount but it also takes up a HUGE amount of space. I thought this refrigerator would fit through the pantry door, but it doesn’t. That means we’ll have to make the doorway wider. I’ve also carved out space in the pantry design for a spice rack, a recyling center and a utility cabinet to hold stuff like the broom, dustpan, barbecue tools – in other words anything that really doesn’t have a dedicated space.
Pulling it All Together
I plan to add some custom features like a chalkboard for notes, etched jars and a cute rug. We found the barn door on Craigslist (my go to for cheap material). It’s gorgeous and the hardware is swoon worthy! I can’t wait to show it to you so be check back.
I’m so ready to get started and make this happen! And I can’t wait to share my progress with you so keep hanging out with me!
