If there was a room in the house I would call my personal favorite, it is the pantry! I love having a central location to store all the stuff we use in our kitchen. Over the years, we have had pantries of all sizes from tiny to medium to make-shift. Different pantries work for different families. What works for us may not work for you. But there are usually elements in each pantry that will appeal to all of us. Now that we finally have my dream come true – a large walk in pantry, I want it to suit my families’ needs. We’re currently in the midst of renovating our pantry. I have looked at thousands of pictures for beautiful pantry ideas. There is so much pantry inspiration it was hard to choose just 10.
Because I know we will eventually sell this home, I want to make sure this pantry will work not just for us, but for a wide range of families. While I’d love to have just drawers and open shelving, I know some people like cabinets with shelves. So I’ve included a mixture of open shelving, drawers and cabinets in my plans! I wanted wallpaper on most of the walls but wallpaper can get dated pretty quickly! So I compromised and included wallpaper only along the back of the shelves. It adds a pop of color but it’s not an overwhelming amount to remove if the new homeowners are not wallpaper fans!
Beautiful Pantries Should Also Serve a Purpose
As a child, my mom taught me how to stockpile items we used all the time. Although we weren’t rich, mom was a practical shopper. Whenever she saw something on sale that we regularly used, she would stock up. Her savviness meant we always had the things we needed even though they may not have been what we a children wanted!
Aside from a well-stocked pantry, we had a sizable garden (I’ve done enough weeding to last a lifetime!), a peach tree and an apricot tree. Along the road, we would find wild blackberries. During spring and summer there was always stockpile work to do, whether it was harvesting, canning or freezing! We always had peach and apricot preserves, pickles, and veggies in the freezer. Although I didn’t pick up my mother’s gardening passion (I ought to develop those skills) I do shop like my mother. Buying during sales and stocking up is how I make sure we have what we need at the lowest prices available! I want to make sure I have a space in this pantry for EVERYTHING we use on a regular basis.
