I use our dishwasher every day and if we have company maybe twice a day! Usually I just put the dirty dishes and the dishwashing detergent in and after the cycle is done, I take the sparkling clean dishes out! My dishwasher and I have a great relationship!
But every once in a while, the dishes that come out are not so clean! That’s when I know a little maintenance is needed. I’ve tried a lot of “clean dishwasher” methods and this is the one that really works for me. So if your dishwasher isn’t cleaning very well, here’s three simple steps that will have your clean dishwasher producing sparkling clean dishes in no time.
Three Easy Steps to a Clean Dishwasher
- Take out the bottom dish rack. Take out the dishwasher filter – this is where the food and other gunk from your dishes end up. It can be kind of disgusting! I just scrap the gunk from the filter and wash the filter and screen with a brush and dish soap. My husband couldn’t believe all this stuff was in our dishwasher! Reinstall after it’s clean.
- Put the rack back in then pour 1 cup of white vinegar in a dishwasher safe container and place in the top rack of dishwasher. Next, run it through the hottest cycle available.
- Finally, sprinkle baking soda in the bottom of the dishwasher then run it on short, hot cycle. I use baking soda A LOT, for the dishwasher and for laundry. – It’s a great tool for cleaning!
Repeat once a month and your clean dishwasher will continue to deliver sparkling clean dishes!
Hey girl! I am going to try the vinegar and baking soda tomorrow. I’ve used the mix to gently scrub residue but I’ve not run individual cycles with each! Thanks for the tip!
Hi Sue! Great..it works wonderfully for me.
Teresa,
I had not thought of this. I will definitely try this and report back. Thank you!!!
